The Upper Primary program, located on the Northcote Campus, caters for students between the ages of 9-12 years. The students within the Upper Primary Department are supported by three full-time teachers and three teacher assistants. The program is implemented in line with the Victorian Curriculum.
The program focuses on students’ individual learning needs and engagement in age-appropriate activities, and aims to develop and extend students’ independent living and social skills within the school setting. Students participate in Discipline-Based Learning sessions such as English, Mathematics and Integrated Units of Learning, Health and Respectful Relationships and Social Capabilities; as well as attending regular Art, Performing Arts and Physical Education sessions with specialist staff. Students participate in a weekly hands-on learning program of craft, science, yoga and gardening.
Students have access to laptops and iPads, with large interactive screens used regularly for engagement. They utilise Sunshine Online, IXL, Mathletics, and Reading Eggs for various educational activities. Students are supported with therapy sessions including music therapy, occupational and speech therapy, and our therapy dogs Mahli and Conrad.
There are further opportunities for students to participate in extracurricular activities, including camps/sleepovers, community access and local walks, excursions, and swimming. Whole-school events such as the athletics day, Performing Arts events, and incursions.
Students are rewarded throughout the day with our SW-PBS Croc Kids (School-wide Positive Behaviour Support) for showing the Croxton School values of being safe, responsible, and showing respect.
